The palette of colors was simply breathtaking with fall foliage in full bloom and purple hued mountains seen in the distance. There was a peaceful, “getaway retreat feel” at Kingsway Worship Center. Pastor Jason LaPierre and his wife Tammy were expecting us and greeted us as soon as we entered. “Instant family” is a good way of describing our reception.

The opening song, “Lord, I Need You” is really the heart of Kingsway. The people here understand what worship is and they recognize their dependence on God. Pastor Jason sang and lead the worship from an electric grand piano, accompanied by his wife Tammy on guitar and his mother Donna on guitar. It was a sweet aroma to the Lord, and every song seemed to mention the word “mountain”. As we sang “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”, I was amazed at how perfectly its verses described the ambience … “field and forest, vale and mountain, singing bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in thee!”. The sunshine was bursting through the window as if it rose to attention to shine for the glory of the Lord. ALL of creation embraces our God and His majesty.

Being a pastor demands a lot of your time, so I always have a lot of respect for those pastors who also work outside of the church. Pastor Jason is employed as a switchboard operator at a local hospital and he shared how he had to work a double shift the previous night due to someone not coming in. He literally spent the entire night there, and now here he was at church, leading worship with such energy and passion. As we sang about God’s faithfulness, I could see Pastor Jason’s faithfulness to God. Even in times of weariness, Pastor Jason serves God with all his heart, with all his soul and all his strength (Deuteronomy 6:5).
45447424_10215585023551169_8926103593518366720_oThen Pastor Jason asked the congregation if God had spoken to them during the worship. This was the first time in my Church Journey’s that I have ever heard this asked, and it was wonderful to hear some of the responses. Then he said something else that impressed me greatly. He admitted before everyone how tired he was from working all night at the hospital, but said he had an important word to share. I prayed quietly that God would give him a “second wind”, and He did. Not one part of this service was done on mere human strength. God was working and speaking through Pastor Jason every step of the way.

He opened the message with Exodus 1:5 where Israel was oppressed. But the Lord heard their cries (Exodus 3:7-10) and rescued them. He brought them to a land flowing with milk and honey, and He wants to do the same for us today. Pastor Jason then shouted, “We declare that our days of captivity are over. We are coming out!”. So many are under oppression from the enemy … bound by habits, lusts of the flesh, discouragement, worry, stress, confusion, anger, bitterness and grief. Through the blood of Jesus, we are FREE. We are being loosed into peace, health, financial blessing and healed marriages. The fire of God will burn up everything that is holding us back. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1 KJV). God has called us to live in liberty so that we may help to set others free.

This close-knit family gathers together on Sunday mornings at 10 am to be equipped and to experience all that God has for them. The casual, family atmosphere here is from God’s love flowing through them. They know the importance of fellowshipping “all the more as the day approaches” (Hebrews 10:25). They hold “Connect Groups” during the week and enjoy family dinners together once a month after the morning service.

Mountains in the songs … mountains in the images projected on the screen … mountains all around! After the service, I began to share how mountains were so prominent here and right then “Shout to the Lord” was playing in the background … “Savior, You can move the mountains”. He CAN move the mountains in our lives that are blocking us from the complete liberty that He has already given us.  Come up into the mountains to Kingsway Worship Center and be set free!
