refreshing 5There is a spring of refreshment located in the heart of Schenectady, NY.  This non-denominational, multi-ethnic church is rooted in their community and rooted in Jesus Christ.  Established in 1955 by founders Rev. Eugene Dix and Dr. Georgetta Dix, Refreshing Spring Community Church serves as a center of worship, prayer, discipleship training, social activism and culture.   For over 60 years, Refreshing Spring has been a faithful pillar in the temple of God.

As soon as we entered the sanctuary the praise already had begun.  The songs were not locked into a standard format, yet they were still easy to follow.  Everything was sung freely, with the choruses repeated multiple times as a declaration to God.   By focusing on one song for an extended period of time, the familiarity of the words and the depth of their meaning sunk into your heart and mind.  Minster Terry, a member of Refreshing Springs since 1986, was playing his electric bass with some serious passion as he worshiped through his instrument.  The drum playing was like the heartbeat of God, keeping everything together.  Everyone sang with an enthusiasm, with joy in their hearts.  These folks really know how to PRAISE!

As Pastor Arnetta Dix approached the pulpit she broke out in song … “I’m never going back to the way it was”.  She proclaimed this into the atmosphere and boldly stated, “We gotta make it to the other side!”.  Her message was centered on Mark 4:35-41.  The disciples were in the boat when a storm suddenly sprung up.  Sometimes the boat we’re in can get a little rocky, but we need to keep our eyes on Jesus!   The boat began to fill up with water.  In the same way, the enemy wants to drown us with doubt, fear, depression, confusion, death, sickness, etc.  But our God given destiny is GREATER than any storm.   We need UNSINKABLE faith so that we can get to the other side!

The Body of Christ is in the boat TOGETHER.  To demonstrate, there were a few rows of chairs set up in the front and some of the church members “got in” and began to row.  As they were rowing in sync, Pastor Arnetta spoke out, “Ministries are being restored; Your children are being saved”.  Then she exclaimed, “Uh-oh, I see trouble up ahead”.  They continued rowing TOGETHER, and they were able to get to the other side.  It was such a powerful display of the Body of Christ operating in UNITY.  God promises His divine presence THROUGH the storm.   We must not quit.  There are people waiting for us on the other side that need to hear our testimony.   Ministries are waiting.  Souls are waiting.

The congregation then welcomed the first time visitors, recognizing each one of us by name.  They also gave us an opportunity to stand and introduce ourselves.  There was a giant feast awaiting us at the conclusion of the service, and they invited all of the visitors to be first to partake.  They ended the service with a powerful testimony from a woman who was recently healed of cancer.  She encouraged everyone to hold on and to keep rowing until we reach the other side.

We made our way downstairs and we were blessed to find a large variety of produce and bread available for the taking.  Refreshing Springs offers this free to the community.  While eating and fellowshipping, several gentleman approached our table, introducing themselves and asking if we needed a beverage.  We were treated like royalty.  It was wonderful breaking bread with our new friends.  What amazing hospitality.

In Revelation 3:12 (NKJV) Jesus states: “He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God…”  Refreshing Spring Community Church has been a firm pillar for decades, lining up with the chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ.   Join them for Sunday School at 10 am and Sunday morning worship at 11:30 am.  They also have Wednesday prayer at 12 noon and Wednesday evening “Searching the Scriptures” at 7 pm.   Pastor Arnetta Dix is helping people row together and grow together, encouraging everyone to get to the other side!
