On Fifth Avenue in Watervliet, NY, My Father’s House Ministries occupies 3 beautiful facilities. The largest one is used for their church services and events. The 2 smaller ones are used for their produce give-a-way and their thrift store. What an amazing conglomeration of buildings used to serve the community. This family of believers is making a giant impact!
The heart of this church is to lead others to the Lord Jesus and to help those in need. They give away produce every 2nd and 4th Wednesday from 1 pm – 2 pm. Here all are welcome to come and receive a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit. Their thrift store is open every Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm. These ministries have over 20 volunteers working together in UNITY to bless others.
We entered the sanctuary as the praise team was already worshiping and preparing their hearts to lead in song. This is when I first saw Pastor Roland Dube, playing his guitar and singing unto the Lord. The songs were older, but they were new to us. Most of these seemingly forgotten songs were written in a gap of time between the old hymns and the contemporary era. It was remarkable to see these powerful songs resurrected and brought to life again. I could hear all of the voices around me singing with enthusiasm with hands lifted high. During the last song there was a time of prayer and meditation. You could hear many calling out their prayers and thanksgiving to God as Pastor Roland walked around the sanctuary, praying for people as the Spirit led him.
The message was all about Jesus! To truly live we have really know Him. The world programs us to live a certain way, but we will find EVERYTHING we need in Jesus. As we grow in Christ, we need look to others less and look to God more. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus states, “Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”. We need to learn from Jesus. We need to rest in Him. When we are yoked to God, He will carry our heavy load for us. As Christians, we have Jesus. If we remove Jesus, then we are just like everybody else. John 15:5 “I am the vine and you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing”. We have no reason to complain with Jesus as our vine.
This Bible reading church did not use power point to make it easy to read along with the scripture references on the screen. We had to use actual Bibles to find the chapter and verse, a method that is sadly rare in modern day Christianity. It was delightful to hear the beautiful sound of the Bible pages turning.
After the service, the Pastor’s wife, Genevieve, spent a lengthy amount of time with us as she shared the history and various ministries of the church. My Father’s House formerly rented a space in Menands. God moved them to their current location over a decade ago. This was a large undertaking, especially with Pastor Roland also working full time job. Then God called him to retire about 6 years ago so that he could better focus on the God given mission to help people in need. Pastor Roland has the heart of a Father, and he helps people who need to know that God loves them and that they have hope in Christ.
We then went downstairs to their kitchen area for a time of fellowship and coffee. I was so blessed to have several conversations with people I had never met before. It was such an enjoyable time of laughing and sharing with our new friends. It was so enjoyable, in fact, that we lost track of the time. The people I spoke with were very excited to hear about “Church Journey’s” and loved hearing what God was doing in other churches throughout the Capital Region.
“My Father’s House has many rooms”, or, in this case, many buildings! The love of Christ can be seen in action here. If it were not so, I would have told you. Church services are held on Sundays at 9:30 am and on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm. Come … He has prepared a place for you.
