sanctuaryIt was a bright and sunny Sunday morning. You could feel the warmth of God fill the sanctuary.   I walked into Crossroadz Christian Church and I was greeted with a warm hug and smiling faces.  This historic, quaint church was filled with beautiful worship music and God’s peace and love filled the room.  Formerly the Rexford United Methodist Church, the building was erected in 1839. The pews and stained glass windows surrounded me as we sang new songs unto the Lord.

Pastor Tiffany Lewis delivered a powerful message entitled “Discovering a Life of Purpose”. She gave many visuals and there was a depth to her teaching.   We read Mark 1:21-38 and she spoke about being ready to go when God calls us.  God has trained each of us in something unique…so we just go!  Jesus was marked with obedience and was marked as a “church going man”.  There is strength when we gather together.  He had the mark of a teacher (Mark 1:22 “They were astonished at His teachings.  He was marked with authority, not arrogance.”).  Jesus had authority because He had the knowledge of God.   We have knowledge, but we need to follow Him and learn things of the Spirit.  Jesus was able to teach passionately and with authority because He BELIEVED what He said.

Her message continued on to share how Jesus wants to set us free. In Mark 1:26 the one oppressed by a demon was FREED (Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world.”).  VICTORY is already won, even though we still are still in the battle, Jesus already has won it!  Then she proposed these questions…

“Do we know God ENOUGH to KNOW that we have the victory?”
“Are you ready to learn to walk in the AUTHORITY God has given you?”

The prominent song of the opening worship that morning was also the closing song…
“I BELIEVE”
I believe in God our Father
I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit
Our God is three in one
I believe in the resurrection
That we will rise again
For I believe in the name of Jesus

Following the service the congregation met in the fellowship hall for light refreshments. The church service was about an hour in length, with about 30 minutes of fellowship afterwards.  I really love the fact that they have fellowship after the service every week as this is an important part of our coming together!  Connecting, getting to know each other and taking time with one another in conversation is an extension of the church service.  I BELIEVE that God wants His children to not only join together for worship and teaching, but also for fellowship…and I BELIEVE we need to do that even more as we see the  Day approaching (Hebrews 10:25).

I also BELIEVE that Crossroadz Christian Church is a special family of sisters and brothers in Christ. They show the warmth and the love of Christ, and it was apparent to me as I watched everyone laughing and enjoying one another’s company in the back of that old church.  This is a place where God’s people gather to encourage one another to walk in the AUTHORITY God has given!  As I drove off that morning, I felt encouraged and strengthened, and I believe I will be making another journey here soon!
