I heard a lot of great things about CityReach Church and finally got there for a visit! Located in Proctor’s Theater, it was nice to see a smiling face with a welcome sign upon entering, directing me to the 2nd floor where services are held.
Steven Musso was leading worship on guitar, along with a keyboardist and Cajon player. The presence of God was powerful. The passion and humility of the worship team permeated throughout the congregation. I loved the song selection, and also enjoyed one of the team’s original songs. Then we sang “Heart of Worship”. Though it’s an older song, they made it seem brand new. All of the voices singing, “It’s all about You, It’s all about You Jesus” brought me to tears.
Pastor Jason Cooper then welcomed everyone and shared the announcements. I loved seeing things so well organized in such a spirit-filled atmosphere. I also love to see pastors encouraging others to use their gifts and I was happy to hear that my friend Darren Barkman was giving the message.
CityReach’s Mission is to reach the one who is far from God and for us to become passionate followers of Jesus Christ. Darren started his message by emphasizing the word “ALL” throughout scripture.
Psalm 67 “Let ALL people praise You.”
Mark 12:30 “Love the Lord with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, ALL your mind and ALL your strength.”
The theme of the message was Missions and it was convicting. He talked about sharing love with others and going out into the world. There are no conditions to the Great Commission as God will assign and equip us. We need to reach others, wherever we are called. Restrictions are not an excuse. We must GO! Darren showed a map of the world with unreached areas. At the current rate of missions, the Great Completion could be reached by 2025. The he spoke of “The Great Completion” in ALL nations…
Matthew 24:14 “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to ALL nations, and then the end will come.”
The depth of Darren’s message convicted me as I asked myself, “Have truly surrendered ALL for Christ?” It made me really think about the importance of Missions and how it applies to my own life. Pastor Jason then shared how he and his wife were called from Ohio to come to Schenectady to start a church in one of the most unreached areas in the U.S. They gave ALL and followed the call of God to go out into the world. As he was speaking , the mission of this church became REAL to me. We were sitting in Proctor’s theater, in the heart of the city, with people all around that needed to be reached….even in the same building! The name of the Church, CityReach, is exactly what this church is doing!
The service closed with a married couple, Tim and Jonali, announcing their recent call to missions. They quit their jobs and sold all of their possessions – surrendering ALL! Please consider supporting this young couple as they obey God’s call to Australia – www.continuetogive.com/familyonamission
CityReach – a church all about surrendering ALL to REACH others. As Darren Barkman stated, “Don’t just sit in the pew…it’s not called “City STAY AT HOME”….it’s called CITY REACH! I encourage you to visit this church, and then surrender ALL to reach others in the areas that God has called you!
