We arrived early as we were the guest worship leaders.  Greg Clark, who serves as both Lead Pastor and the worship leader, was on a much needed family vacation.  Formerly the First Baptist Church of Scotia, City View Church is rich in history.

The congregation was formally organized in 1840, and the current brick structure went up in 1872, replacing an earlier wooden building. As we were setting up, I noticed the old pipe organ, still in working condition.  I imagined a time when that was the worship music, and I pictured hymns being played and the congregation filling in joyous song.  But today, the old organ is concealed by a modern looking wall with fluorescent lighting.  The stained glass windows and the pews serve as reminders of our Christian heritage. This church certainly has seen a lot of changes since 1840, but the Word of God is still the same yesterday, today, and forever!

The service started promptly at 10:30 am.  We lead the song service, and the congregation was engaged in the worship.   I had visited this church only a month ago, and the worship style was contemporary with a strong youthful appeal.  I enjoyed their worship and I liked the fact that they were open to having guests come in to lead in their own style and giftings.

The guest speaker was Pastor Nathan Mandsager.  I know I am getting older when all of the pastors seem to be getting younger!  Pastor Nathan delivered a powerful message and spoke with wisdom well beyond his years.  This church is Biblically grounded, and the sermon was overflowing in scripture.  The teaching was on Daniel 3:19-30. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire and it did not harm their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them. Pastor Nathan talked about trusting God in all circumstances, even through the firey trials of our lives.

At the close of the service, there was a brief time of prayer and we ended in song, “Your Great Name”.  Following the service the congregation was invited to go downstairs for a time of fellowship.

City View Church….a Church rich in history and rich in God’s Word.  If you want a solid, Biblically based church that has an appeal to young and old alike, I urge you to come for a visit.  If that old pipe organ ever gets sold, I do hope they will do a special service with it just one last time.
